As the new steam season started, and a good forecast, I ventured out to the East Somerset Railway yesterday (different to my more usual West Somerset!) for a few images of what I suspected would be small Prairie No. 4555 working the trains, that turned out to be correct. There was however a lot of cloud about, and a very cold wind, the railway being located on the downward slopes of the Mendip Hills is susceptible to such weather conditions, and Cranmore station was nicknamed Siberia by past railwaymen. Despite four attempts to capture the Prairie leaving Mendip Vale, the clouds had other ideas and I didn't get my shot. ![]()
This morning was much brighter than originally forecast, so I returned to the ESR for another try, still very cold and windy there though. But perseverance paid off and this time I captured 4 images of the loco leaving Mendip Vale before calling it a day at lunchtime. ![]()

After my Cornwall & Dorset selections posted previously, we are now looking at Somerset and in this case Wells Cathedral, with the iconic Glastonbury Tor behind on the misty horizon. I knew there must be a view like this in Wells somewhere, but it took quite a bit of finding. ![]()
