In todays lovely winter sunshine I opted to visit the Swanage Railway, Purbeck, Dorset to photograph the Victorian era T3 No. 563 working trains. A fine days photography with mostly clear skies throughout and 4 shots of the loco "in the bag". here is one of the, the T3 No. 563 crossing Corfe viaduct with the mid day Swanage Railway service to Norden. 2nd January 2025.

This was the scene that started off the year (steam wise anyway) no less than 30 yrs ago - 2nd January 1995. Princess Royal Pacific No. 46203 "Princess Margaret Rose" leaves Garsdale with its late running (very - 3hrs) "Cumbrian Mountain Express in stunning conditions just before sunset. ![]()
We had originally driven from the south west up to Chesterfield for our first shot, but the late running gave us the impression it might not run at all, so we headed across to the East Lancs Rly. When we found out that the train was still going to run over the S&C, despite the late running, we drove north to photograph the train at Stainforth and then some fast driving in the winter conditions (!) to get to Garsdale just in time for this departure.

No cards this year, as usual, so please don't feel offended at having not received one from me, we prefer to give a donation to a prominent charity each year (haven't decide who this year yet) instead of paying card companies and Royal Mail to make & deliver cards.
